Welcome to 2018 and welcome to the new Frills & Doodads blog!
I am Em, a serial blogger who has started more blogs than she can count on one hand and is never happy with the content she publishes. Having had a break from blogging for a few months (last attempt was a family related blog having two small children of my own and one stepchild) the New Year brought me a fresh hankering for an area on the internet to call my own.
And so here is the Frills and Doodads blog! A blog about everything and nothing, bits and bobs, oodles and doodles and basically anything I feel like writing about. I am hoping to keep with this one, keep it growing and publishing content on a (semi) regular basis. I want it to be an extension of me, to keep a record of life’s goings ons as well as share the things that I love most.
As well as a blog there are several other new things that I have decided to instigate in 2018. These are my New Year’s resolutions. You know, those things that you set on the 30th December and then fail at miserably by the 7th January? Admittedly, I am not usually one for making New Year’s resolutions – being fully aware that my willpower is an absolute minimum and I tend to cave in to temptation at the first hurdle. However, this (last) year there have been a few things that I have wanted to improve on so I decided the New Year would be the perfect time to start.
So here they are:
Look after myself more.
With two young children, it is very difficult to find time to pamper yourself and take time to relax and unwind. However, the kids are getting older now and a little more independent (as independent as a three year old and a one year old can be!) so I would like to introduce a little more self care this year. Take the time, when I have it, to have a long bubble bath, do my nails, dye my hair or even just veg out in front of the TV and relax. I would like to find a hobby that is mine (ahem.. the blog!) and have something that I enjoy and look forward to doing on my time off.
I also want to eat a little healthier and stop the snacking over the next year, with the target of dropping down to my pre one year old wait. I know, I know – this is an age old one but, having had a frankly amazing metabolism when I was younger, I need to get used to the fact that I cannot just eat what I want, when I want anymore.
Spend some quality time with loved ones.
Life has been busy lately, especially with the introduction of two little ones and returning to full time work, and this has resulted in some people not getting as much attention and time as I would have liked. This year I want to concentrate on spending some quality time with my husband and the kids, with the rest of my family and with friends. Quality time that does not include my phone or computer or any kind of browsing device so that my attention is on them alone. I want the most important people in my life to feel loved and appreciated, and that cannot be done if I am on my phone all the time.
Appreciate what I have.
I love gadgets… and DVDs… and makeup… and lots of other things that I am not going to list now, and I have noticed that I have a tendency to want more and more things that I don’t necessarily need. This year I want to appreciate what I have, remember how lucky I am and make sure I get the full use out of the each item. I am extremely lucky in the situation I am in, and don’t want to take that for granted or lose touch of that fact.
So those are my three New Year’s resolutions for 2018. I am hoping that I manage to make them work for me and see them through the entire year and onwards. Each of these is important to me, and I feel will help give me and my family a better quality of life than the one I already have.
